Nigel Hopkins To Male Voice Choir
Date: 17 February 2019 at 19:09:11 CETHello Choir Members,
Firstly profound apologies for disappearing after our first rehearsal together. My leg wound developed an infection which needed immediate attention so I had to fly back to the UK to receive it. Perhaps I had returned just a little too early to start the rehearsals, but after receiving so many emails from members urging my early return I tried my best - only to find that many had disappeared to join other groups when I did! However, I am now receiving daily medical attention BUT ... I have been banned from flying for a few weeks more!
Can I be quite clear that I WILL be returning, with plane tickets already booked for 24th March, so that MMI will resume on Tuesday 26th March, and the MVC on Thursday 28th March. The only difference to our original arrangements for our concerts is that, as we both have a slightly reduced rehearsal time beforehand we will now do a JOINT concert on Sunday 26th May - the original MMI date - in the big church. These concerts have previously been highly successful, and we can all look forward to a fab concert day. Remember also that I have already announced that you can sing this concerts from books!
I would like to thank all you loyal members of both choirs, and apologise again for ‘messing you about’ due to my leg wound. I am reliably informed by my medical teams that I should be fully back to normal by the time we start the next term after the summer recess. Phew!
Is there anyone Amongst you who is able to print tickets for our concert? Since we sadly lost Henny’s husband, Gunther, in October, I now need someone else to do this important job. Please email me back if you can help. You can all start selling tickets in principle, two performances at 3pm and 7pm, at €12 each. Please can everyone ‘do their bit’ in selling tickets?
With every good wish ... and very much looking forward to seeing you all at the end of March ......
I am looking forward to seeing you all on Thursday 7th February to start again. I’ve missed you all ... and perhaps you may have missed your music too. I have arranged a concert for us at La Zenia church on Sunday 5th May.
VERY IMPORTANT !! Due to a change of use at our normal rehearsal room, making it unavailable, the Padre has kindly offered us the use of the Temple - the big church where we also perform occasionally, in the basement where we congregate for our concerts. The day is the same, the time is the same, but we will now be at the big church, underneath, and I look forward to seeing you all there. Please bring all your music with you ... as I will use several of those pieces to get us back up to scratch again. Please tell any choir colleagues you come into contact with ... in case of undelivered emails, etc.
We have been offered tea/coffee making facilities there ... so Pauline and Diane will see you are well refreshed.
With every good wish to you all,
Nigel to In Harmony - Hi Friends,
I have been working hard on returning to my choirs in Spain ... and you may be aware that arrangements have been finalised to recommence MMI on Tuesday 5th February.
You may also be aware that Philip has decided not to continue playing, leaving me with a big hole to fill for the three choirs. As a result of this ... plus the fact that I have to intermittently return to Cornwall for treatment ... I have decided that I will be unable to start In Harmony again until this September, ready for our Christmas concerts. I am sorry for this ... but I would like to instead invite any of you to join in with MMI this season ... which would fill in any emptiness you might feel without In Harmony.
Please let me know if you are willing to join us on 5th February. I promise you that In Harmony WILL recommence in September.
With every good wish,
Nigel to Music Makers International
Hi Everyone. Happy New Year to you all ...this has GOT to be a better year than last year - let’s hope so. After lots of mucking about by our Spanish friends I can tell you the following:-
MMI. Our FIRST rehearsal will be on Tuesday 5th February - 5.30pm at Casa Ventura, San Luis ... and each following Tuesday. The concert date will now be on Tuesday 28th May ... I will explain all when we meet. I am sorry it has taken so long to organise, but we have had to take many unusual factors into consideration, i.e. fitting in with Matthew flying over to play for us since Philip has left us without a pianist. We will still have a fab concert and a great sing-song. Please come in plenty of time on the 5th for enrolment, registration and collection of music.
Male Voice Choir. First rehearsal on Thursday 7th February. Same time - same place. See you then!
I hope I’ve got all your addresses right ... but just in case please talk to any members you see meanwhile and remind them of our starting dates.
Very best wishes,
I’m so sorry this letter has been so long in coming - the truth is ... my health has been changing weekly, sometimes daily, since the end of August 2018. I write to you from my hospital bed in Truro, having spent two stints here - one of 12 days and the other of 8 so far - incorporating THREE operations! My leg is currently hooked up to a vacuum machine which is ‘cleaning out’ the rubbish inside which helped to make me so immobile along with my hip. However, we seem to be receiving better news on this behalf and, although I have not set foot to floor in over seven weeks, hope that this recuperation may start straight away. There is good news on my cancer with the tumour I had shrinking by 95%, and now officially not dangerous! Unfortunately that treatment set off so many other things which, one by one, are now being dealt with.
It was always my intention to bring all three choirs together for a huge Christmas concert - indeed the dates for both rehearsals and concerts have been arranged for some months now - but I’m afraid my health is really not up to it. Therefore, to ensure continuity of friendships, musical harmony and general bonhommie amongst our many members, I propose the following:-
1) I propose a Christmas social gathering on Tuesday 11th December 2018, at Casa Ventura - at 6pm - where we can meet old friends again, eat mince Pies and the like (we will set that up), and sing Christmas carols and songs to our heart’s delight. There will also be a big Raffle ... we’re good at those. Bring your partners!
2) Also on this evening we will hand out the music for the next big MMI / MVC concert, scheduled provisionally for Saturday 2nd June 2019, at Orihuela Costa Resort. This concert will be our 10th year anniversary performance, and will incorporate a good deal of the very best numbers we have performed in that time. I have received many, many requests to join the two choirs together for this concert and, considering its subject, think it might be a grand idea.
3) I think you may realise that I am committing a great part of my life to this venture, and I would like also to gain your commitment to this concert so that I know who I have to work with. To that end I would like to collect €15 per person for the music on December 11th which will be an indication of your commitment. The remainder of the sub will be payable as usual on the first rehearsal at the end of January.
I hope this meets with your approval. This year has been a rubbish year for a lot of us and leaves us with little to celebrate. Therefore let us turn December 11th into a celebration of things to come - a new start.
Both Male Voice Choir and In Harmony will continue after Christmas as usual, and I will be writing separately to you on this subject.
I would appreciate if you could ALL reply to this email indicating that you will both be at the Dec 11th evening AND will be participating in the June concert (necessary for music printing purposes).
Thank you all for your kind messages of support during the last six months. It has been most helpful during a very dark time. Thank you also to Linda Myers whose hard work organising rehearsal dates - only to have them cancelled - has been greatly appreciated, and to everybody who has involved themselves accordingly.
With very best wishes,
PS Don’t forget to email me back. Very important!
A renowned figure in the classical music world came to live in Spain in 2009, where in no time he had established four high-standard choral groups.
These include a 70 strong mixed chorus who perform a musical/popular music repertoire, twice a year, known as 'Melody Makers International'.
'In Harmony', a very high quality auditioned chamber choir who sing basically liturgical music and secular song.
The 35 strong 'Orihuela Costa Male Voice Choir'.
And also the early summer 'West End Workshop' for tuition of singers of any standard.
